The wonderful fall weather continues.  Unfortunately, the quality and size of the waves has been quite inconsistent recently.  A received an email from Mr. T saying that surfing would be good later in the day.  Would his prediction be correct??

The winds were strong and the surf was terrible at Yoshida, Shizunami and Kashima.  We decided to check out Omaezaki.

Nice looking waves!  Unfortunately, there was a Nippon Surfing Association (NSA) contest being held.  Tons of surfers were in the water.  A little bit too crowded and competitive for us.  Maybe next year!  <ha ha>

Today was Wednesday - my official surf day.  I was hoping to have a good outing today.  First stop - Yoshida at around 6 am.

Not too bad.  I caught a fair number of waves.  At around 9 am, some more surfers arrived and that Shizunami was even better…

I wasn’t planning on going surfing today - I was kinda tired after the drive back from Ibaraki.   I planned on sleeping in - unfortunately, the alarm clock wasn’t turned off.  Once I’m awake, it’s difficult to go back to sleep.  Why not go to the beach?

A mere 300 kilometers from the house to Ooarai Sun Beach.   Here’s how it looked just after sunrise.

Small but getting bigger.  At around 7 am, the crew and I got in the water.  The waves were a reasonable size and the new fins seemed to work well.  Caught lots of waves in the morning.

In the afternoon, the waves got smaller again.  During my afternoon break I took these:

After breaking one of my fins a couple of weeks ago (the right one to be exact), I have been using even older fins from another board.   I thought about buying one replacement fin, but the cost was at least 3,000 yen.  A whole set of much better fins cost 10,000 yen.

Initial impression?  Fast!

Many years ago, I thought that it would be nice to do a working holiday to Australia.  This trailer for this documentary about Gold Coast and Byron Bay reminded of this.
