After an unsuccessful outing on Monday, I was hoping for a better day today. Little did I know that today I would experience something new.
Because we weren’t expecting the waves to be so good today, we got a late start. I arrived at Yoshida just before 7 am. Here’s what I saw:
Beautiful weather but no waves – ripples to be precise. No surfers – only fishermen!
Next stop, Shizunami.
A little better – at least some surfers were in the water. We decided to check out more spot…
The mouth of a small river – I’m not sure of the name but it is just down the beach from Shizunami. I had visited this point before when I was scouting for points in the spring. It’s quite narrow and the combination of the locals and the gallery make it an intimidating spot. Because conditions weren’t particularly good today, there were 6 or 7 surfers clustered on the left side of river. Obviously, this is the best place to be. Fortunately, there were also waves up grabs on the right side as well.
Here are a couple of action shots:
Overall, it was a fun session. I think I will check out some other river breaks in the future!
